In March of this year, Xiaomi announced that it wanted to enter the electric car business. Now it becomes concrete. From 2024, 300,000 are to be produced per year.

The Chinese electronics group Xiaomi is planning a factory for e-cars in Beijing with an annual production capacity of 300,000 vehicles.

As the Beijing authorities announced on Saturday evening, the plant is to be built in two phases and also include a research center. The plan is for the first car to roll off the assembly line in 2024.

It was only in March that the 51-year-old Xiaomi founder Lei Jun announced that his company would be active in the field of electric cars. Around 10 billion dollars will be invested in the company’s own auto division within the next decade, it said. The Beijing-based group completed a corresponding business registration in August.

Xiaomi is one of the leading smartphone manufacturers worldwide. Xiaomi also sells household electronics in the Chinese home market.
