Stiftung Warentest tests ten electric toothbrushes – just 20 euros are enough for a good model

The most expensive toothbrush in the current Stiftung Warentest comparison costs an insane 320 euros – but you get the second-placed model 16 times.
Electric toothbrushes are basically divided into two camps: There are very expensive models with all sorts of extras and a comparatively very cheap basic model without a lot of frills. And despite the enormous price differences, the brushes have one thing in common: Im In the current comparison by Stiftung Warentest, the price apparently has no influence on the cleaning performance.
Of the ten models tested, six devices scored “good” in the most important discipline. The main differences are in handling and environmental properties.
Electric toothbrushes with lots of extras are expensive
Two models from Oral-B took first place. Including the most expensive toothbrush. The one that costs 320 euros Oral-B iO Series 10 received a grade of “good” (2.0) from the testers. Warentest explains the high price of the Series 10, which is currently available online from 250 euros, with numerous extras, such as an optical pressure control and personalized cleaning coaching, which are intended to prevent you from missing any areas when cleaning. In addition, the luxury brushes are usually accompanied by a suitable app.
If you can do without amenities that are sometimes more or less useful, you don’t have to dig nearly as deep into your pockets. Accordingly, just 20 euros and the purchase of a Budni Diadent Total Clean Pro are enough for a “good” cleaning result. This is also reflected in the overall grade, because at 2.1 (“good”) it is only slightly worse than that of the first-placed team. The only reason for this is a downgrade with a “satisfactory” handling rating. The rudimentary pressure control is responsible, which you obviously can’t perceive as well as with other devices. The models of other drugstores also struggle with this problem – otherwise you can apparently buy them without hesitation.
No new model beats the previous test winner
In previous tests, devices from small manufacturers have repeatedly proven to be a surprise – one example is this Playbrush Smart One X, which impressed with a “very good” cleaning result in the last test. As a reminder: no device has achieved this in the current comparison. So it’s a shame that Mate’s sonic toothbrush can’t follow the success of the outsiders. Although the brush is very stylish, it was not convincing in terms of teeth cleaning or handling – grade “satisfactory” (3.5).
Warentest almost seems a little disappointed that this time no brush has shaken the top positions in previous tests. In previous editions, three toothbrushes received a grade with a one before the decimal point. The best toothbrush according to Stiftung Warentest is and remains this Philips Sonicare 9900 Prestige for 269 euros at the time. It is currently around 225 euros – surprisingly stable in price.
