Nowhere are electric cars more naturally at home than at the Consumer Electronic Show 2022 in Las Vegas, because this is where electric mobility has long since arrived – 100 percent.

It took almost a decade before the CES in the desert state of Nevada – held at the beginning of the year – developed into a trade fair that focused on international car manufacturers. Within a few years, the CES even outpaced the almost simultaneous NAIAS – North American International Auto Show – in Detroit, where not only car brands from Europe celebrated their successful start to the new year for many years. The Detroit Motor Show is dead and the Delhi Motor Show – held every two years – is no longer interested internationally. The CES, on the other hand, has gotten into people’s minds, even if the ongoing pandemic and dwindling trade fair budgets have recently put pressure on the automotive industry. While the gigantic car companies once had to share space in a not very attractive side hall with the providers of cell phone shells, LED light guides or processors, things have looked different since this year’s CES, because the new West Hall is more gigantic than ever as the home of mobility. Here, the car manufacturers and suppliers, so used to the trade fair, can better present themselves and, despite the cancellations, did so better this time than ever before.

Most of the innovations at the fair could then also be admired on the freshly laid carpets in front of glistening bright LED walls. And anyone who sees the new electric cars on the stands thinks they have never seen combustion engines. No car manufacturer dares to show an internal combustion engine here in front of the innovation-hungry tech youngsters. Those like General Motors, Hyundai, BMW or Mercedes, who withdrew at short notice from the major event in the gaming city of Las Vegas or limited it to a minimum program due to the pandemic, showed their innovations virtually and also completely electrically.

The fair stars were the impressive electric car quintet of the Vietnamese newcomer Vinfast, the Sony Vision-S 02 as well as the electric Chevrolet Silverado EV, the 1,000 km-wide aerodynamics messiah Mercedes Vision EQXX or the 619 hp electric top model of the BMW iX M60. However, there was a lot more to marvel at on two to four wheels on and off the largest electronics trade fair. With the Air Flow, Chrysler unveiled the electric study of a crossover that is well worth seeing, but which is not due to reach US customers until 2025. The SUV is powered by two 150 kW / 204 PS electric motors, so the Air Flow is in a performance league like the Polestar 2. The battery pack in the flat underbody should cover a range of up to 600 kilometers. Inside there are the usual extras such as four comfort armchairs, large displays and innovative operating concepts.

When the Chrysler Airflow hits the market in the middle of the decade, it won’t just face a direct competitor like the Chevrolet Equinox in North America. While Stellantis brand Chrysler presented its Air Flow at CES in real life, General Motor left it with CEO Mary Barra at a virtual appearance. “The Equinox has always played an important role for Chevrolet as it is the second best-selling brand,” said Chevrolet Vice President Steve Hill, “Providing an affordable EV option in the industry’s highest-volume segment proves that Chevy makes EVs available to everyone want.” The Equinox EV, which costs around 30,000 US dollars and will celebrate its public premiere in mid-2023, can also be seen visually and technically – but stands in the shadow of the 510 to 664 hp Silverado, which has been the undisputed number two for decades, both on and off the CES is behind the Ford F-150, which will have an electric brother with the F-150 Lightning by the middle of the year. Almost at the same time as the Equinox, the Detroit-based automaker is bringing Chevrolet Blazers out of its mid-size SUV as an electric version.

Compared to the mass supplier, the Turkish newcomer Togg can only shine with its innovative strength when it comes to its international debut. Togg is a Turkish dream come true that began in 2017/2018. At that time, a consortium of Turkish companies and business organizations decided to develop and manufacture a car under their own brand. So far there have only been production facilities of foreign manufacturers in Turkey. Anadolu Group, BMC, Kök Group, Turkcell, Zorlu Holding and Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey founded Turkey ‘s Automobile Initiative Group and appointed Mehmet Gürcan Karaka & # 351; to CEO. At the CES 2022, the Turks showed a remarkable electric study as a fastback, which, however, has little to do with an electric crossover that will roll off the assembly line from the beginning of 2023. “We are a technology brand in the field of mobility,” says Togg CEO M. Gürcan Karaka & # 351; “We will launch our first series vehicle at the end of 2022. Once the homologation tests have been completed, our first vehicle in the C segment will be the SUV , will be launched in the first quarter of 2023. It will be the first all-electric SUV produced by a non-traditional manufacturer on the European continent, after which a sedan and hatchback in the C segment will go into production For the B-SUV and C-MPV models that follow, our product range will consist of five models, with the same DNA and the same platform. “
