All the votes had not even been counted when FDP politician Dirk Hilbert declared himself the winner of the mayoral election in Dresden. In the course of the vote count, he was uncatchable in front.
The FDP politician Dirk Hilbert declared himself the winner of the mayoral election in Dresden even before all the votes were counted.
The 50-year-old was uncatchable ahead after counting in 535 of 538 polling stations on Sunday. At that point, Hilbert received 45.3 percent of the votes and his opponent Eva Jähnigen (Greens) 38.4 percent. Hilbert will remain Lord Mayor of Dresden for another seven years. “Dresden has chosen the middle,” he called out to his supporters at an election party.
The liberal had been set up by the “Independent Citizens for Dresden” alliance and was supported by the CDU. The AfD politician Maximilian Krah and Jan Pöhnisch (The Party) and individual candidate Marcus Fuchs played no role in the outcome of the election on Sunday.
