There has recently been much talk of the danger of a shift to the right in Spain. And Alberto Núñez Feijóo, the promising top candidate of the conservative Partido Popular (PP), left no doubt before the election this Sunday that he would have supported this shift to the right. Feijóo would probably have governed with the far-right Vox if the PP and Vox had achieved an absolute majority in the Spanish parliament. He recently praised Vox boss Santiago Abascal as “strong” on Spanish television and spoke of his “cordial” relationship with the ultra-right.
