Election in Schleswig-Holstein: what’s next for Jamaica? – Politics

From no-name to the most popular head of government in the republic: the CDU no longer needs two partners to continue governing in Schleswig-Holstein. Who will Daniel Günther choose, Greens, FDP – or again for both?

“Our prime minister” is written on his election posters. And “stay the course.” Short messages were enough for Daniel Günther and his CDU, they didn’t need a lot of advertising. On Sunday, Günther was able to calmly tick his boxes in his home town of Eckernförde for this state election in Schleswig-Holstein, which he has governed since 2017 – he will remain the prime minister. The first projections for his CDU came to an incredible 41 percent, on the verge of an absolute majority, nine percent more than in 2017. “Of course that’s an enormous vote of confidence,” said Günther, but his Jamaica alliance is unlikely to survive the clear CDU victory.
