According to initial results, the prime minister, who was replaced a year ago, can hope for a return to power. Above all, he owes his success to the strength of his allies.

Opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu’s right-wing conservative Likud emerged as the strongest party in the Israeli parliamentary elections. According to the first results after the polling stations were closed, he can now hope for a return to power. The right-wing religious camp he leads has 61 to 62 seats in the 120-strong parliament. In view of this extremely narrow majority, however, the numbers can still change before the final count of all votes.
