Now all the votes in Bremen and Bremerhaven have been counted. Even according to the provisional official result, the SPD is again the strongest political force.

Now it’s official: the SPD is once again the strongest political force in the state of Bremen. This emerges from the provisional official final result for the citizenship election, which is now available earlier than last announced. According to the Bremen State Statistical Office, the Social Democrats received 29.8 percent of the votes in the election on Sunday.

Just four years ago, the CDU had replaced the SPD as the victor for the first time in more than seven decades, but had not been able to form a government. Now the Christian Democrats came in second with 26.2 percent of the vote. Despite significant losses, the Greens came third with 11.9 percent, followed by the Left with 10.9 percent.

Citizens in Wit (BuW) reached 9.4 percent. In some extrapolations, the right-wing conservative voters’ association, which performed particularly well in Bremerhaven, was predicted to be in the double digits. The FDP is just over the five percent hurdle with 5.1 percent.
