  • The reviews shortly before the release of “Elden Ring” were rave than seldom in the industry.
  • After the release euphoria, however, a hangover is spreading.
  • The PC and PS5 versions cause problems despite the day-one patch. Bandai Namco responds.

The first tests of “Elden Ring” before the release rolled over with praise: A “masterpiece” is the new action role-playing game from From Software, even one of the best games of all time. At the international opinion aggregator Metacritic the game achieves 95 (Xbox) or 97 out of 100 points. One of the few beauty spots seemed to be performance issues on PC and PS5, but the trade press assumed these would be fixed with the day-one patch as promised.

After the rating frenzy, the disillusionment follows: The 13 gigabyte update on the day of publication improved some bugs, but by far not all. On social media, but also on Steamwhere currently only half of the users make a recommendation, there are complaints about temporarily frozen or stuttering images – for example when loading new objects or enemy types.

In addition, the frame rate drops under stress such as entering a new area. Above all, it seems to be the unfortunate liaison between the modern DirectX 12 interface and the outdated From software engine that is causing trouble on the PC. Another criticism is that the settings expected on the PC, such as ultrawide support and a free frame rate limit beyond 60 FPS, are missing. Quite a few complain about crashes.

There is also trouble on the PS5

Although the PC is the biggest problem child for “Elden Ring”, the new consoles from Microsoft and Sony also have to struggle with flaws. With the Xbox Series X and PS5, even in performance mode, the frame rate cannot be maintained at 60 frames per second throughout. Instead, sometimes only 45 frames per second can be measured. In quality mode it is sometimes only 30.

There is a workaround for the Xbox against the “stuttering” observed on the PC: the “VRR” option. The abbreviation stands for Variable Refresh Rate. The prerequisite, however, is that the monitor or television also supports this function.

While the PS5 experiences fewer issues than the PC version, performance suffers more than the Xbox Series X/S since the VRR feature is not offered. In addition, PlayStation users are plagued by a serious memory bug.

Bandai Namco responds

In the meantime, developer From Software and publisher Bandai Namco have commented on the problems. We apologize for the inconvenience and provide in a statement a number of other changes to come.

In “Mario Strikers Battle League” the ball and the opponent are equally kicked. Of course, beautiful moves should not be expected in this recently announced anarcho kick for the switch console, but plenty of spectacular “hyper shots”, goals counted twice and tough tackles. © ProSiebenSat.1
