At the weekend, the Cuban artist Tania Bruguera invited people to a hundred-hour reading from Hannah Arendt’s main work “Elements and Origins of Total Domination” in Berlin. A productive text marathon was expected under the title “When your ideas become civic actions”. The artist first implemented the concept in Havana in 2015, when the Cuban authorities placed her under house arrest. She then invited friends and strangers to her apartment for a public reading by Hannah Arendt. The performance in Berlin’s “Hamburger Bahnhof”, an important address for contemporary art, also planned audience activities. In addition, guests from the arts and culture were scheduled to read and comment. But the campaign had to be stopped early.
