Eight-year sentence upheld on appeal for driver responsible for death of 9-year-old Adam

The Montpellier Court of Appeal confirmed the sentence pronounced at first instance against the driver who had fatally hit little Adam on August 21, 2021.

The 9-year-old boy was riding a scooter on the sidewalk with his mom, a friend of hers, and other children. They had been hit by a car as they were about to return home to the Martelle district. The expertise had made it possible to establish that the driver was driving at 87 km / h, well above instead of the authorized 50 km / h. According to toxicological analyses, he had consumed alcohol, cocaine and cannabis.

Arrested at the airport, he was about to flee to Morocco

After a year of preventive detention, the driver was released in August 2022, pending trial. A few days later, he was intercepted at Marignane airport as he was preparing to flee France for Morocco.

The correctional chamber of the court of appeal confirmed his sentence of eight years in prison handed down in December 2022. It accompanied it with a ban on retaking the driving license for ten years.
