Eight war photographers exhibited in front of the Gare de Lyon

Art is in the spotlight on the forecourt of the Gare de Lyon, in Paris. Until May 8, 2022, SNCF is displaying the works of eight women war photographers. In partnership with the Liberation Museum, it exhibits the works of Gerda Taro, Lee Miller, Catherine Leroy, Christine Spengler, Françoise Demulder, Susan Meiselas, Carolyn Cole and Anja Niedringhaus.

A way of relaying an exhibition that questions the specificity of the female gaze on war, upsets certain stereotypes and shows that women are also carriers of images without hiding the horror of the events »says the SNCF.

From the Spanish Civil War of 1937, to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, through the discovery of concentration camps, these three generations of women have immortalized 75 years of international conflicts. Some died there. Their testimonies are exhibited with their works on large black panels.
