Editor-in-chief Steffen Klusmann leaves the news magazine “Der Spiegel”. “Business Insider” and “dwdl.de” had previously reported on this change at the top of the magazine. Klusmann had implemented far-reaching reforms in recent years. The decision was made by mutual consent, it said.
“We owe a great debt of gratitude to Steffen Klusmann for his groundbreaking work over the past five years, above all for merging the print and online editorial offices and the success of our digital subscription strategy,” said Managing Director Thomas Hass.
With his instinct as a newspaper editor and many journalistic successes, he has secured the trust of the readers of Spiegel in challenging news times: “We could not have imagined anyone better in the past few years and very much regret that in the end we didn’t succeed, our always very good cooperation for the future,” said Hass.
No consensus on strategy discussion
Klusmann justified his step with different views on strategic issues: “Recently, however, management and I have all too often failed to reach agreement on crucial strategic issues – which has now resulted in my resignation.”
As the news company further announced, Dirk Kurbjuweit will succeed him. His task will be, among other things, to advance ongoing reform projects.
