This is further proof of the progress of the dismantling of the nuclear site. In Brennilis (Finistère), EDF has just announced its wish to separate from what it calls the Maison du lac. Behind this title, which is more reminiscent of an Airbnb accommodation, is actually hiding an old building from the 1960s in lack of activity. Long used as a catering area for some 300 employees of the nuclear power plant, the 1,600 m² building now serves as a reception and information center for people who come to visit the nuclear site. The view of the old power plant is not crazy. But the panorama over the lake and the very wild Monts d’Arrée is much more popular.
For several years, the energy supplier has made no secret of its intentions to sell the whole thing, even for a symbolic 1 euro. Two problems arise. The buyer will first have to find one or two million euros to bring the building up to standard. And succeed in attracting people wishing to settle near a site still under deconstruction.
The dismantling drags on
Inaugurated in 1960 and shut down since 1985, the plant has been being dismantled since 1997. Presented as a showcase of EDF’s know-how to “go back to green”, the deconstruction of this heavy water reactor drags on and should not occur before 2040.
Without a real candidate, EDF and Monts d’Arrée Community appealed to the State to launch a call for expressions of interest. Objective: to seduce a project leader “in order to allow the conversion of this exceptional site”, explains the prefecture of Finistère in a press release.
At first glance, the building does not really appeal. But architecture enthusiasts will find it much more interesting. Designed by Marcel Roux, an architect follower of Le Corbusier, the building has arguments. But he suffered seriously. In an attempt to convince project leaders, EDF is organizing a one-time site visit on September 22. Anyone wishing to participate is invited to make themselves known by sending an email to the address [email protected] with the sole subject “AMI – Reconversion of the Maison du Lac”.
