The European Union and Poland have been at odds for years. The right-wing conservative government in Warsaw has gradually restructured the judiciary in its favor and curtailed its independence. The EU Commission sees this as a violation of the Union’s values and has sued Poland several times – in some cases successfully.
Now there is a new judgment of the European Court of Justice (ECJ) in this matter. According to the judges, the judicial reform contradicts Union law.
