Ebersberg: Wednesday cinema – Ebersberg – SZ.de

The longing for art and culture is great, and the “Wednesday cinema” must have been sorely missed by many Ebersbergers. Now the series in the old cinema is finally starting again – as usual with many cinematic pearls, selected by Babsi Lux. Here are the films in April:

“I am your human” by director Maria Schrader was awarded the Silver Bear and is on the shortlist for an Oscar. The “Wednesday Cinema” series in the Old Cinema will show the film on Wednesday, April 6th. Tom is no different from a human. Scientist Alma is to live with the humanoid robot for three weeks. The science fiction romance unfolds like a successful flirt around this scientific experiment with Maren Eggert and Dan Stevens.

After 88 years, the factory that provided jobs for residents of the city of Empire, Nevada, is closing. Shortly thereafter, not even the zip code of the place exists anymore. All residents have to leave the area, including Fern. She loads a small van with her belongings and sets off. On her journey through America, she meets other nomadic workers who, like migratory birds, follow odd jobs and seasonal work and sometimes flee from bourgeois life and the ghosts of their past. For her movie “Nomad Land” director Chloé Zhao has received numerous awards, including in Venice, Toronto, at the Viennale and at the Oscars. The old cinema shows the film drama on Wednesday, April 13th.

Director Jann Ji Wonders is part of an emotional and deeply touching portrait of a generation “Walchensee forever” succeded. In it she impressively tells the story of her family at Walchensee, which spans a whole century. The focus is on the women’s point of view: each of them defies the patriarchal structures of their time in their own way. Questions about identity, home and self-realization are asked, the search for love, life and death is discussed. The documentary can be seen in the Wednesday cinema on Wednesday, April 20th.

“Mr. Bachmann and his class” is a fascinating film study of what constitutes pedagogy. Based on the social relationships in a sixth grade, the documentary casually tells of the structures of a small, West German industrial town whose history is characterized by migration back to the Nazi era. The teacher, Mr. Bachmann, meets the children with their different social and cultural experiences with engaging openness and thus creates a space of trust. Music is a ubiquitous language that naturally surrounds the subject matter to be completed. The documentary by Maria Speth received the Silver Bear and the Audience Award at the Berlinale 2021 and the German Film Award 2021. It can be seen in the Old Cinema on Wednesday, April 27th.
