Ebay Classifieds: The strangest offers of the year

Ebay classifieds – the platform will soon be called classifieds – is the most popular website in Germany. And where there are millions of buyers, there is of course a corresponding offer for everyone. These include services, apartments, cars, luxury items, everyday objects, and the occasional absurdity that makes you wonder how anyone ever got it.

At the end of the year, Ebay Classifieds presents the 11 most bizarre offers that could be found on the website’s offer this year – even if the selection does not come close to reflecting what really happened on the virtual marketplace.

A new home – in a tower

In the official selection, a special trend of the year quickly emerges: strange real estate. In 2022 there were several bunkers and tunnels as well as an old water tower for sale. Maybe it’s related to rising energy costs — heat a 125-foot tower built in 1911.

It would probably have been easier with the high-rise bunker offered, because there are no windows to be seen in the picture in the advertisement – this reduces the heat loss from rooms immensely. The former chapel, which was advertised as a residential building with sauna and pool, is likely to be much more homely.

Those who didn’t want to isolate themselves from the outside world could buy an entire supermarket near Bielefeld – for a very fair price. Since, according to the seller, the property is in a busy area, visitors are guaranteed. The same applies to the ship fleet, which was briefly anchored on Ebay classifieds in 2022. In exchange for a condominium in Hamburg and a small additional payment, the “Seute Deern” and a supply ship changed hands. A pleasure boat in the port of Hamburg is always possible.

One foot on the move

Probably the scariest offer this year came from Krefeld. Because someone was trying to sell a foot there. This originally came from a mummy, which was clearly established in the course of the police investigations that were initiated because of the advertisement. Officials took a closer look at the offer on site because it had to be ruled out that it was a body part. The problem: The authentic mummy foot should never have gotten to Krefeld. It turned out that he had been illegally exported from Egypt. And so the seller had to return the mummy mauke to the country of origin. May the original owner rest in peace now.
