A strong earthquake has shaken parts of Japan. The national meteorological agency warned of a three-meter-high tsunami. The warning applies to Ishikawa, Niigata and Toyama prefectures. “All residents must immediately move to higher ground,” said Japanese broadcaster NHK.
So far no reports of injuries
The quake occurred on the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture. Buildings in the area of the capital Tokyo began to sway. There were initially no reports of damage or injuries. According to the US Earthquake Observatory USGS, the quake had a magnitude of 7.4. Japan is one of the most earthquake-prone countries in the world.
