E-bike co-pilot: bike computer with ChatGPT integration – Golem.de

The bike manufacturer Urtopia wants to use the capabilities of the chatbot ChatGPT to improve the functionality of its e-bikes. The company already offers a bicycle computer with voice control, but wants to improve it significantly with AI.

Urtopia’s bike computer has leeward microphones integrated into the LCD display embedded in the handlebar stem. So far, voice interaction has been limited to basic commands such as setting the motor support level, activating indicators, adjusting the volume and locking the electronic lock. as reported by New Atlas.

At the Eurobike trade fair, Urtopia presented its technology, which is said to be seamlessly connected to ChatGPT. However, this refers to a prototype – the technology is not yet available for purchase.

According to the report, ChatGPT is intended to help with route finding on the e-bike, primarily to suggest interesting destinations and stopovers. It should also be possible to call up tips and tricks, for example for repairs and the like.

Mercedes is also pursuing a similar goal with the integration of the OpenAI chatbot in its MBUX language assistant.

With the integration of ChatGPT, Mercedes-Benz is expanding the Hey Mercedes function of the MBUX language assistant. However, beta testing of this feature will only be available to drivers in the United States.

Mercedes wants to prevent false information

It is envisaged that drivers will work together with the AI language assistant, which not only reacts to commands but also conducts an interactive conversation. While driving, users can request detailed information about their destination, receive recipe suggestions or even ask complex questions.

Based on ChatGPT’s plug-in ecosystem, the car manufacturer is examining the possibility of integrating with several third-party services. This could enable drivers to use natural language commands to make restaurant reservations or book cinema tickets, for example.

To keep the language assistant in check, Mercedes uses a new method to minimize errors from the AI: The in-house system carries out a check of the AI-generated information.

For example, the plausibility check checks whether recommendations for restaurants, gas stations or other destinations even exist. It is unknown if Urtopia conducts a similar fact check.
