Inexpensive and good: These products are worthwhile as an alternative to the Dyson hair dryer
Not all hair dryers are the same: which devices are worthwhile in addition to the popular Dyson products.

Even with a hair dryer, there are strong differences in quality. We present the alternative to the popular Dyson hair dryer.
When it comes to vacuum cleaners, you can’t get past the Dyson brand – but also when it comes to technical products for the hair. For example, the Dyson hair dryer also has 2022 Stiftung Warentest performed best and received a grade of 1.7. The Dyson Supersonic offers many features, different attachments, gentle styling – but also costs between 400 and 700 euros depending on the model. Not exactly little for a hair dryer.
The Dyson is popular and offers many accessories and convincing quality. But Stiftung Warentest and numerous customer experiences also show that there are worthwhile alternatives that are significantly cheaper. We present three of them.
1. Dyson hair dryer alternative: Slopehill
Often used as a very cheap but worthwhile alternative to the Dyson hair dryer the Slopehill model called. It only costs a fraction of the luxury hair dryer: just under 47 euros. It comes with 1800 watts and ion technology: According to the manufacturer, released ions prevent static charging of the hair and thus unwanted frizz. There are two air speeds and three heat levels, as well as a “cool down button” – as with most standard models. A diffuser nozzle is also included, as well as a smooth nozzle and a styling nozzle. Visually, the device is reminiscent of the branded version from Dyson, especially in the silver-purple version. By the way: There are also other ion hair dryers in this price segment that are recommended. However, the Slopehill model is one of the bestsellers and is the best rated.
2. Dyson hair dryer alternative: Philips
But there are also other well-known brands that offer good hair dryers: Der Philips hair dryer Series 5000 BHD501/00 is considered worthwhile. It also did well in the Stiftung Warentest and ended up in third place. It comes with an output of 2100 watts, with ThermoShield technology, three heat levels and two speed levels. And: The Dyson hair dryer alternative also costs only a fraction of the test winner.
3. Dyson hair dryer alternative: Panasonic
The third alternative to the Dyson hair dryer also comes from a well-known brand: The Panasonic Hair Dryer EH-NA63CN with nanoe technology performs well in comparisons and also in the Stiftung Warentest. The runner-up in the last test offers four temperature and three speed levels, a chic black and rose gold design and 2000 watts of power. According to the manufacturer, the special technology supplies the hair with 1000 times more moisture than ions and is intended to ensure smooth and shiny hair. The scope of delivery also includes a styling nozzle and a diffuser.
Tips for blow drying
- When blow-drying, the distance between the hair dryer or nozzle and the hair should be around 15 centimetres.
- Instead of increasing the temperature, it is better to increase the air flow, as this is gentle on the hair.
- A heat shield or hair dryer spray can also help to protect the hair from excessive heat – if the hair dryer itself does not already do this.
- A normal nozzle is suitable for straight hair, and a diffuser as a matching attachment for curly hair.
Tips for buying a hair dryer
- What should the hair dryer of your dreams be able to do? If you find a lot of features nice, but usually don’t use them in everyday life anyway, you don’t need a multifunctional device with a lot of accessories – and the selection is correspondingly cheaper.
- Customer ratings give a helpful insight into the advantages and disadvantages of the envisaged model and can provide good orientation when buying online.
- You can save particularly well on certain events, such as Black Friday or Amazon Prime Day.
