Drugs found in the millions: The police found indoor cannabis plantations in a total of eight rooms in three Düsseldorf apartments. Two suspects were arrested.

In a residential building in Düsseldorf, the police discovered a huge cannabis plantation in three connected ground floor apartments.

The annual sales value of the cultivated drugs is estimated at around one million euros, said the Mettmann district police authority. According to expert estimates, the electricity requirement for such a large plantation is roughly equivalent to the annual consumption of around 300 two-person households. The police also secured the lighting, ventilation and irrigation systems.

Investigators found two suspects. The 40 and 26-year-old men were arrested. It will be checked whether they will be brought before a magistrate.

A total of eight rooms have been converted into indoor plantations, it said. The exhaust air was routed to the outside via pipe systems through an apartment on the first floor. All 687 cannabis plants in different stages of growth were secured. They would be examined and then destroyed, the police said.

According to the information, the background to the search was an investigation into the discovery of a cannabis plantation in a former hotel in Mettmann at the beginning of November last year.
