During rush hour traffic: Richard Strauss Tunnel is closed – Munich

An accident in the Richard Strauss Tunnel caused significant disruption to rush hour traffic on Monday morning. According to the fire department, a driver rammed another car around 9 a.m. because of a “medical problem” and then came to a stop against the tunnel wall.

A first responder pressed a fire department report button, triggering the fire alarm system. This led to the tunnel being closed off. The driver who caused the accident was treated by emergency services and taken to hospital.

The property damage has not yet been determined, the police are investigating the cause of the accident. The tunnel was closed for almost three quarters of an hour and was reopened around 10 a.m. However, it still took a long time for the traffic jams on the Middle Ring to clear.
