In the past few weeks, bears that have come close to or even attacked people have repeatedly made headlines in Europe – including Germany. Sad climax: Bear Gaia, the sister of the problem bear “Bruno”, killed a 26-year-old jogger in northern Italy.

The well-known documentary filmmaker Andreas Kieling is now reporting on Facebook that he too was the victim of a bear attack. Alongside a photo showing his jacket with holes in the back, he writes that the attack happened a week ago while filming about rare waterfowl in the High Carpathians. Where exactly the attack took place is not clear from the Facebook entry. The Carpathians extend in a wide arc from central to eastern to south-eastern Europe. Many brown bears live there.

“The bear is fine, just following his instincts!” he writes. Kieling himself is also doing “quite okay” again.

Another Facebook post shows the extent of the attack. The film producer is sitting on the floor covered in blood. Apparently he was injured in the head, back and hand.

Many of his more than 350,000 Facebook fans were shocked by the attack and the photos and wished him a speedy recovery. Andreas Kieling did not comment on the exact circumstances of the attack.

Andreas Kieling has been working as a documentary filmmaker for more than 30 years, including for Das Erste and ZDF. In 2015 he received the Federal Cross of Merit with Ribbon for his many years of work.

In his work, Andreas Kieling repeatedly finds himself in danger. Just this year he was bitten in Namibia by a black mamba whose venom is deadly. He only survived because the snake secreted little venom, he explained compared to “Bild.de”.
