Since 2011, Duchess Kate shines as a wife at Prince Williams’ side. There were few slip-ups – those were her most controversial moments.

Duchess Kate (40) has long been in the spotlight. At the latest since her wedding to Prince William (39) in 2011, the public has been there for each of her appearances. She is considered the perfect match for the future King William. Together with the three children Prince George (8), Princess Charlotte (6) and Prince Louis (3), the couple always creates emotional moments. But not everything has gone smoothly at Kate in recent years. The Duchess of Cambridge, who celebrates her 40th birthday on January 9, was criticized for these performances.

Public appearances shortly after the birth of the children

In April 2018, Duchess Kate presented herself to the world shortly after the birth of her youngest child, Prince Louis. Styled and in a designer dress, she waved to the Royal fans around six hours later in front of London’s St. Mary’s Hospital. There had already been criticism after Charlotte’s arrival. Acting star Keira Knightley (36) had her first daughter Edie the day before the birth of Princess Charlotte in 2015 and later criticized Kate for her performance. In the volume “Feminists Don’t Wear Pink and Other Lies: Amazing Women on What the F-Word Means to Them” by Scarlett Curtis (26) she describes: “We get up and look at the television. You [Herzogin Kate] was released from the hospital seven hours later, her face is made up and her high heels are on. The face that the world wants to see. “

She added, addressed to William’s wife, “Look beautiful. Look stylish, don’t show your battlefield, Kate. Seven hours after your struggle with life and death, seven hours after your body cracked open and bloody, screeching life came out. Don’t show it. Don’t say it. Stand there with your girl, surrounded by a pack of male photographers. “

Real fur on the fingers

Duchess Kate is a fashion model for many women. The 40-year-old always relies on faux fur in winter. In 2016, however, she attracted negative attention with the choice of her accessories: According to media reports, the animal welfare organization PETA, among others, was criticized after Kate was allegedly seen with gloves made of opossum fur. The royal family themselves published the pictures from the ski vacation without noticing the faux pas.

Not a black dress

In 2018, Duchess Kate raised her eyebrows with her outfit choice. At the British Academy Film Awards ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall in London, almost all female stars appeared on the red carpet in black in solidarity with the “Time’s Up” movement. Prince Williams’ then pregnant wife, on the other hand, presented a dark green robe.

Presumably, the royal protocol prevented a different choice of clothing: Traditionally, members of the royal family avoid anything that could be interpreted as a political statement. According to “Mail Online”, they only wear black at funerals. Some Royal experts had apparently assumed that Kate’s robe could be at least partially black, on the one hand to support “Time’s Up”, and on the other hand to respect the royal protocol. After all, Kate wore a black belt over her baby bump with a green robe and a matching black clutch and dark shoes. In the social media, however, many users were disappointed with Kate’s choice of clothes.

Alleged argument between Kate and Meghan

The now legendary TV interview by Oprah Winfrey (67) with Duchess Meghan (40) and Prince Harry (37) in March 2021 went around the world. Meghan confirmed the alleged argument between her and Kate. As early as 2018 rumors surfaced that Meghan had made Kate cry shortly before the wedding to Harry. In an interview with Winfrey, Meghan put another story on record: At the time, she cried herself when there was a dispute over the choice of the flower girl’s dresses for the wedding. Her feelings were hurt, Meghan claimed about the argument with Kate.

So can Kate do anything else? Later, however, her sister-in-law even sent her flowers and an apology letter, Meghan said. Now there’s another version of the story about the tearful argument. “The Telegraph” reports, citing Kirstie Allsopp (50), who is on friendly terms with the royal family, that Kate has “lost control of herself”. “Kate never loses her temper,” said Allsopp, “but she found out that Meghan was rude to the staff at Kensington Palace.”

Kate continues to be very popular

Despite this controversy, Duchess Kate remains one of the most popular members of the royal family. According to British media reports, the positive opinion of the Duchess of Cambridge is 77 percent in a recent survey of the Royals. By comparison, only 27 percent of those polled have a positive opinion of Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex. Kate is behind Queen Elizabeth II (95) and her husband Prince William in third place of the most popular royals.
