Queen Elizabeth II celebrates her birthday. Kate and William used the day to once again show their support for Ukraine.

Queen Elizabeth II turns 96 today, Thursday. Her grandson Prince William (39) and his wife Duchess Kate (40) used this day for a special appointment: With the visit to the charity Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) in London, the two once again expressed their support for Ukraine. This is reported, among other things, by the “People” magazine. The royal couple found out about the work of the organization that helps people affected by the war in Ukraine. The DEC provides food, water, shelter and medical assistance in Ukraine and neighboring countries.

They had local helpers tell them about the situation there via video call. They also met with helpers who had recently returned to England. Duchess Kate wore a beige blazer and black trousers for the occasion, while Prince William wore a dark blue suit. Both had also pinned buttons in blue and yellow, the national colors of Ukraine, to their clothes.

Royals wish the Queen a happy birthday

Ahead of their visit to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), Kate and William took the opportunity to wish Queen Elizabeth II a happy birthday. “We wish Her Majesty the Queen a very happy birthday on her 96th birthday today,” it said on the official Instagram and Twitter account of the couple. The Queen is “an inspiration to so many people in the UK, the Commonwealth and around the world”. It was “something very special” to celebrate her day of honor in the platinum anniversary year. The 96-year-old has been on the throne for 70 years in 2022. The royals posted two photos: one shows the queen with Kate and William, the other shows the monarch and her late husband Prince Philip (1921-2021) with her great-grandchildren.

Prince Charles (73) and Duchess Camilla (74) also congratulated the Queen with a series of photos from the past few years. “We wish Her Majesty the Queen a very special 96th birthday, which she is celebrating today in the year of her platinum jubilee,” read the congratulations on Instagram and Twitter.
