Harry and Meghan had to relinquish their patronage after their retirement as senior royals. Camilla is now taking over one of them.

Duchess Camilla (74) will succeed Duchess Meghan (40) as royal patron of the National Theater. This was announced on Instagram, among other things. This is the first former patronage of the Duchess of Sussex. Meghan and her husband Prince Harry (37) retired as senior royals in 2020. The patronage of the two went back to the royal family.

Queen Elizabeth II (95) has now given the Duchess of Cornwall this task at the London theater. The queen, who held this position for 45 years, made Duchess Meghan the royal patron of the National Theater in early 2019. The fact that Camilla is now taking on this role is seen by royal experts as another sign of how much trust the Queen has in Duchess Camilla. It was only in February that the monarch declared in a message on her platinum throne anniversary that Prince Charles’ (73) wife should in future bear the title “Queen Consort”.

Duchess Kate inherits Prince Harry

There is already a successor for one of Prince Harry’s former patrons. The Queen handed over rugby patronage to Duchess Kate (40) in February. The Duchess of Cambridge is Patron of Rugby Football League and Rugby Football Union (RFU).

Harry and Meghan live in California with their two children Archie (2) and Lilibet (9 months). The two moved there in spring 2020. Then, in February last year, Buckingham Palace released a statement announcing the Queen’s final decision to relieve Harry and Meghan of their honorary patronages. The palace confirmed that the “honorary military offices and royal patronages held by the Duke and Duchess will be returned to Her Majesty before being redistributed among working members of the Royal Family”.
