There should be no general suspicion against older drivers. Many seniors drive without accidents, know how to assess their driving skills well – and at some point voluntarily give up driving. However, it is also not appropriate to dismiss the considerations of regular driving fitness tests for older people as “compulsory examinations”, as Transport Minister Volker Wissing does with regard to EU plans.
