Drink like Tony Soprano – the drinks of series heroes to remix

What forces a mafia boss to undergo psychotherapy? Ducks. Not a joke, but the beginning of the cult series “The Sopranos”. The image of Tony Soprano standing in the pool wearing a bathrobe and underwear to talk to “his” ducks is legendary. The moment when the young ducks learn to fly, leaving Pool and Soprano, will later mark a key scene. Her disappearance triggers a panic attack in Soprano, he becomes unconscious and, as a result, so depressed that he has to seek therapy. A no-go for a mafia boss, whose self-image includes having no weaknesses and certainly not showing any. His fight against his inner demons turns into a dance on the edge.

For many, “The Sopranos” is one of the best TV series ever developed – and Tony Soprano, played by the late James Gandolfini, was elevated to the hero pedestal by fans. He is not alone there. The misguided lawyer Saul Goodman, embodied by Bob Odenkirks in “Better Call Saul,” or Kyle Maclachlan as FBI agent Dale Cooper in “Twin Peaks,” are also among the series characters who have become an integral part of pop culture – and they all have a signature drink. The “Absolut Truth”, a blue version of the Cosmopolitan, was created exclusively for the closing party of the – at least at this point – last episode of “The X-Files”. And Marie Laveau (Angela Bassett) in “American Horror Story: Coven” toasts her ally with a “French 75” after defeating the witch hunters.

Drinks inspired by series to remix

“Just like in the movies, cocktails are used in TV series as attributes to say something about a character, as a subtle motif that hints at the emotional life of the protagonists,” write Will Francis and Stacey Mash in the introduction to their new book “TV cocktails“. They have put together 60 drinks inspired by television series. Some are actually drunk in the series, others are more of a “homage to certain TV series or characters”. We present three of the recipes to you in the photo series.
