Dresden – OB Hilbert continues to rule – politics

In Dresden, the FDP politician Dirk Hilbert asserted himself in the mayoral election on Sunday: The previous incumbent will continue to head the town hall in the future. According to the preliminary final result, Hilbert received 45.3 percent of the votes after counting all 538 constituencies. His green challenger Eva Jähnigen got the second best result with 38.3 percent of the votes, AfD candidate Maximilian Krah finished third with 12.2 percent. Hilbert will remain Lord Mayor for another seven years, and he declared himself the winner even before all the votes were counted. “Dresden has chosen the middle,” he called out to his supporters at an election party. The Liberal had been nominated by the “Independent Citizens for Dresden” alliance and was supported by the CDU.
