Downtown development Ebersberg: The foundation is in place – Ebersberg

It works, but it won’t be cheap. The efforts of the city of Ebersberg to counteract the lack of parking spaces in the center can also be described with this notorious craftsman saying. In total, this commitment amounts to at least 800,000 euros – mind you as additional costs for a major project that is also not exactly cheap anyway and that the finance committee of the city council has now budgeted for.

We are talking about the new construction of the St. Sebastian kindergarten, a project that the ordinariate of Munich, as the responsible body, and the city of Ebersberg, as the beneficiary – and the bearer of the costs – have been negotiating for some time: Anyone who attended the kindergarten at the beginning of these talks between the city and the church is now about to graduate from high school. It wasn’t even a question of sharing the costs – it was never disputed that the city would bear 80 percent of the expenses for the new building – but of the planning details. For example, whether apartments will also be built in the new building and the size of the underground car park.

Underground car parks are to be built near the city centre

This is interesting for the city for two reasons: Firstly, because of the plan decided three years ago by the city council to relieve the city center of parking traffic by installing several underground car parks close to the city center. Several locations were examined, one of them just below the St. Sebastian children’s home. This is considered to be particularly promising – in addition to the new development area of the Bäumerbräugelände, on the one hand because of its proximity to the city center and also because of the fact that the topography means that the entrance from Ulrichstrasse is almost at ground level. This, at least that’s what the planners expect, will help ensure that the garage is also used and thus really help to relieve the pressure on the inner city.

This, in turn, is a prerequisite for a project that has been on hold in the district town for far longer than the new kindergarten: the redesign of Marienplatz. The city has also registered this for years with the urban development subsidy, and they have already received around 90,000 euros for various plans – but without having been implemented so far. Which has now triggered a certain impatience at the funding authority. Last year, the city was informed that the project could drop out of funding and that money might even be reclaimed if the Ebersbergers didn’t start redesigning their city center soon. This is currently to take place in accordance with a plan presented in 2015, which, among other things, envisages reducing the number of parking spaces. Which, as can be expected, caused muted enthusiasm among the business people around the square, which is one of the reasons why the city has been looking for ways to create parking spaces close to the center ever since.

A total of 77 are now to be built in the new garage under the children’s house, which is 58 more than would be needed for the day-care center and at least 18 more than in the one-story “basic version” of the underground car park. Instead – as recommended by the Technical Committee in January – the rear area should have two floors. Which is then reflected in the costs, which is why the topic has now ended up in the finance committee: the simple one is estimated at around 1.8 million euros, and the partially two-story one is estimated at 2.6 million euros. Overall, the new children’s home will cost around 13 million euros.

However, as Mayor Ulrich Proske (non-party) noted at the meeting, the money will by no means be due this year, not even proportionately: “Construction will certainly not start this year, we don’t have to change the current budget.” The resolution for the additional funds therefore affects the planning for the 2023 budget. It was adopted without further debate and without dissenting votes.
