The fans of “Downton Abbey” will probably have to do without a beloved star in the third film: Imelda Staunton.

British actress Imelda Staunton, 68, is reportedly set to star in the upcoming “Downton Abbey” film is missing. In the first two parts she took on the role of lady-in-waiting Lady Maud Bagshaw.

Imelda Staunton is committed to the theater

It was only in March that Staunton, who is also known as Queen Elizabeth II in “The Crown”, revealed that there would be a third part of the aristocratic saga. As “The Sun” reported, she should not be seen in it due to other commitments. The 86-year-old doesn’t have time because she’s in “Hello Dolly!” at the Palladium Theater in London. “This will undoubtedly be sad news for Downton fans, especially those who loved the character of Lady Maud,” an insider is quoted as saying.

Filming for the third film sequel to the former successful series is scheduled to begin in the summer. The cinema release is planned for 2025. The rest of the main cast is expected to be back on board. Staunton’s husband Jim Carter (75) is also part of the regular cast as Butler Carson.

Third and final trip to “Downton Abbey”

A few weeks ago, the actress not only confirmed in a radio interview that there would be a third film, but also announced the bad news for many fans that this would be the last.

The successful British historical series “Downton Abbey” about the aristocratic Crawley family has a total of 52 episodes in six seasons. The two feature films “Downton Abbey” and “Downton Abbey II: A New Era” followed in 2019 and 2022.
