A new Downton Abbey film is in production.

After two successful “Downton Abbey” films, the conclusion of the trilogy has now been officially announced. The cast has also been decided.
The “Downton Abbey” franchise will continue with a third film. The film production companies Focus Features and Carnival Films have officially announced this announced on X (formerly Twitter).. The character actor Paul Giamatti (56), who has just been nominated for an Oscar for his performance in the drama “The Holdovers”, will also reprise his role already known from the series “Downton Abbey” in “Downton Abbey 3”, it says in a statement from the film companies.

In the upcoming film, Giamatti will once again portray the American bon vivant Harold Levinson, the brother of Cora Grantham, played by Elizabeth McGovern (62). Giamatti was already seen in this role in an episode of the TV series in 2013.
Also joining us are Joely Richardson (“The Gentlemen”, 59), Alessandro Nivola (“The Many Saints of Newark”, 51), Simon Russell Beale (“The Death of Stalin”, 63) and Arty Froushan (“House of the Dragon”. “, 31) about the cast of the new film. It is currently unknown which characters the last named will play in “Downton Abbey 3”.
In addition to McGovern, the regular cast of the TV series, which was broadcast from 2010 to 2015, also includes Hugh Bonneville (playing Robert Crawley, 60), Michelle Dockery (Lady Crawley, 42), Laura Carmichael (Edith Crawley, 37), Jim Carter (Mr. Carson, 75) and many other actors return. “The Crown” star Dominic West (54), who appeared in the second movie “Downton Abbey II: A New Era,” also once again embodies silent film star Guy Dexter.
“Downton Abbey” series creator and Oscar winner Julian Fellowes (74) is writing the script for the as yet untitled “Downton Abbey 3”. As with “Downton Abbey II: A New Era”, Simon Curtis (64) will once again take over the directing position. Details about the plot of the upcoming film are not yet available.
