Two alleged rapes in a park not far from Regensburg main train station have caused an outcry across Germany in recent weeks. After it turned out that the first rape did not occur and, according to the police, the woman only made up the act, there are now doubts about the second alleged rape.
As the police headquarters now reports, the arrest warrants against two men in this case have been revoked. A 29-year-old initially described the crime as follows: She had spoken to two men near the train station in the evening, with whom she then went with to a place in the park. She was raped there. The police then arrested two Tunisians, 20 and 22 years old, who were living in asylum accommodation.
The district court obviously came to the conclusion that the case could have been different. According to the men, “the actions took place in agreement with the 29-year-old,” according to the police report. The evaluation of further evidence and the viewing of video recordings at the train station also led to the arrest warrants being revoked. There is currently no urgent suspicion of a crime.
An investigation is underway against the 27-year-old, the alleged victim of the first incident, for faking a crime. This can result in a fine or up to three years in prison. In the second case, further investigations are also being carried out.
Regensburg main station and especially a small park nearby are currently the talk of the town – so far mainly because of drug offenses and theft. After the rapes, however, the mood ran high; there was talk of Regensburg’s “Görlitzer Park”. The principal of a school near the train station distributed a letter to parents warning about the park.
According to the police, a major problem at the train station and around it are Tunisian serious offenders who commit several crimes quickly and often in succession. A kind of task force was therefore formed by the Regensburg authorities and a special unit was set up at the public prosecutor’s office.
