“Death Trap EU Border” is the title of the text from August 19 of this year. It deals with the fate of Syrian refugees on the Turkish-Greek border. For days, 38 people were driven back and forth by Turkish soldiers and Greek border guards on the Evros border river. Finally, in this “pushback,” a five-year-old girl, Maria, dies on an island in the river where people have to hold out for two weeks. That’s what the text says, it paints a picture of a humanitarian failure.
The story and others about the fate of a group of refugees has der mirror now taken offline. There are doubts about the veracity, like the industry magazine media insider first reported. Of the mirror said on request that it was “mainly about the suspicion that the refugees could have invented the death of a girl in their distress”. To this day, the refugees have maintained that the girl died as a fact, as the Hamburger Magazin explains.
