Döpfner’s apology does not make up for his contempt for East Germans – opinion

West German billionaire Döpfner cannot hide how shamelessly he has belittled East Germans, even in a justification disguised as an apology.

Of course, writes Mathias Döpfner in Picture, East Germans are not either right-wing or left-wing radicals. And of course this is not an excuse from the Springer boss, but a cheap attempt to escape from a self-incited shitstorm. That won’t work. Thanks to leaked private messages, one has been able to get to know Döpfner’s school of thought all too thoroughly in the past few days, in which East Germans are “communists” or “fascists” and “intolerant Muslims and all that other stuff”. The West German publisher now retrospectively names this contempt for human beings as words that he said or typed “in an impure manner”.
