Donald Trump is a master of Taekwondo – at least on paper. The world federation of martial arts has awarded the ex-US president an honorary title. With that, the 75-year-old draws level with another well-known ruler.
The World Taekwondo Headquarters, based in Seoul, South Korea, has given former US President Donald Trump the highest honor in martial arts – without him ever having practiced the sport. According to media reports, Lee Dong-sup, President of the Kukkiwon Association, presented the 75-year-old with a certificate of honor at his residence in Mar-a-Lago in Florida. The ex-president now holds the ninth and highest rank (Dan) in Taekwondo. According to a report by “Sky News” Trump is formally even above the well-known US martial artist and film star Chuck Norris, who holds eighth rank.
“I am honored to receive the Ehrendan certificate, and I think Taekwondo is a great martial art for self-defense. I would like to see the demonstration by the Kukkiwon Taekwondo Team,” said Trump, according to a Facebook post of the organization during the award ceremony . “This ceremony is not related to any other political issue,” it said.

With the award, according to “Sky News”, Trump holds the same rank as Russian President Vladimir Putin. He had received the Ehrendan in 2013 – again without ever having practiced Taekwondo.
According to the South Korean daily Dong-a Ilbo, Kukkiwon President Lee said that a South Korean resident in the United States served as a bridge to facilitate the meeting. When presenting the certificate, Trump also claimed that he wanted to wear the taekwondo suit in the US Congress if he were to become president again.

Trump drew a lot of ridicule on Twitter with his appointment as Taekwondo master. “This is the same guy who holds his glass or bottle of water with both hands and now he wants to brag about being ‘the best in martial arts’,” wrote a Twitter user.
According to the British “Independent”, users accused the ex-president of the ninth black belt of being unworthy. The highest rank of martial arts is actually only awarded to experienced teachers who have trained and taught for years.
