That’s what you call a successful PR coup: Piers Morgan interviewed former US President Donald Trump for the first episode of his new TV show. A trailer suggests that there was a scandal.

Hardly anyone has mastered the game of attention and headlines like Piers Morgan. The 57-year-old is Britain’s best-known tabloid journalist, he wrote for the “Sun”, was editor-in-chief of the “News of the World” and the “Daily Mirror” and repeatedly caused a stir with provocative statements on television.

Now the Brit gets his own TV show. Piers Morgan Uncensored premieres Monday April 25th. The presenter was able to win a very special guest for the first issue: former US President Donald Trump. Morgan has now published a 30-second excerpt from it on Twitter, which suggests that things really broke up between the two:

The edited sequence shows how Trump insults his counterpart: He is an honest man, “more honest than you”. To Morgan’s question, “Do you think I’m a fool?” the ex-president replies: “I think so now.” At the end of the 30-second clip, it appears that Trump indignantly breaks off the interview.

Donald Trump and Piers Morgen are friends

It is surprising that things should have gotten that way between the men. Because the two have been friends for a long time. One of the reasons for the dispute, as the short trailer suggests, is apparently the 2020 presidential election. Trump lost, but to this day does not want to admit his defeat. In contrast, Morgan describes the election as legitimate: “It was a free and fair election. You lost,” says Morgan. To date, Trump has not presented any evidence that illegalities have occurred. The president-elect reacted aggressively.

However, it is doubtful that the conversation actually got as high as the trailer suggests. A spokesman for Trump described the 30-second video as manipulative and provided NBC News with an audio recording, according to which the two men ended up sitting together and laughing.

Piers Morgan will be fine with the discussion: the more the real events are discussed, the greater the interest in his show. Nobody can fool him in this area: In terms of media competence, even Donald Trump could still learn a lot from him.
