Donald Trump in Dallas: Talked for a long time – and said nothing. – Opinion

Arguably the most exciting part of Donald Trump’s appearance ahead of this weekend’s big Conservative gathering in Dallas, Texas, was whether he’d get a new barber. The former president’s hair shimmered in an unfamiliar gold tone, and it also looked a bit fluffier than usual. The new styling may be due to the fact that photos of Trump recently circulated that revealed too light spots on his head, and Trump is, as you know white, a very vain man.

Trump had nothing to say about the content. He had no political message for attendees at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), nor did he answer the biggest question of all: Will Trump run again in the 2024 presidential election? The CPAC would have been an ideal opportunity to announce a candidacy. It had recently been speculated that Trump would quickly announce his entry into the race in order to dig the water out of his inner-party competitors. Now it appears his advisers have persuaded him to wait until after November’s midterm elections. The result was a speech that lasted a long time but got nowhere.

It seemed like he was bored with himself

Trump had so little to say that it sometimes seemed as if he were bored with himself. He dutifully said a few aggressive sentences, such as that “radical left-wing crazies and fascists” had destroyed the country from within and that’s why it’s now about it to save the United States. But he has said this so many times that there has only been mild applause.

It would be a grave mistake to underestimate the former president and especially his ability to excite the right base when he is on form. But when he appeared in Dallas, it looked as if what the Democrats had been hoping for for a long time had happened: Donald Trump looked tired.
