We have the beautiful story of these 2023 world athletics championships. This Thursday in the furnace of Budapest, the Slovak Hana Burzalova was about to cross the finish line of the 35 km walk in anonymity which in principle accompanies a 28th place. But when he finished the race in 3h02’47”, 24 minutes from the world champion, the Spaniard Maria Perez, the 22-year-old athlete saw his companion Dominik Cerny in the distance.
Aged 25, he did not stand out more in the men’s 35 km, concluded in 2h32’56” in 19th place. The Slovak couple almost stole the show from world champions in the discipline Maria Perez and Alvaro Martin on Thursday. And for good reason, when the young woman crossed the line, Dominik Cerny was waiting for her with one knee on the ground, just like the cameras of World Athletics (for whom these images are gold).
Because yes, we were indeed entitled to a marriage proposal between two athletes from these world championships, which does not happen every summer. By the way, we obviously wouldn’t have told you about it otherwise (although), Hana Burzalova agreed to become Mrs. Cerny, with a ring on her finger in mondovision, and the two lovebirds hugged, a few meters from athletes ending their ordeal in pain.
