Dolly Parton’s new album and Dollywood culture

There is not much left in this world that can be loved without problems. Being a fan is a complicated thing, Greta Thunberg is a complicated thing, the United States is a complicated thing, and so country, whiskey, Nashville, the whole beautiful road romance is complicated, more on that in a moment. Only then does something like this happen: you’re sitting in the strange place “Dollywood” on a fresh autumn evening, looking up at the red sky above the treetops of the Smokey Mountains, the crickets chirping from the tape, you hear screams from the loop of the “Tennessee Tornado”, and you are struck by the certainty: If anyone can save this country, it will be Dolly Parton.
