The tussle between Ankara and Stockholm over Sweden’s admission to NATO has been going on for months. Many in the alliance hope that the Vilnius summit will bring about a breakthrough. But it could also be different.
If everything goes well, it will go like this next Monday: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg will meet in the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius. They sit down, they talk, then stand in front of the media, and Erdoğan announces that Turkey is giving up its opposition to Sweden’s NATO membership.
