Is it the high mountains and the deep forest, medical skepticism or traditional defiance against “those up there” – or is it something completely different? There are many ideas and assumptions as to why Bavaria lagged behind the national trend for corona vaccinations for a long time. The gap has narrowed, according to current figures from this Sunday, 70.7 percent of people in the Free State are twice and thus completely vaccinated against Covid-19, compared to 71.9 percent in Germany. For some in the far north, in Hamburg or Kiel, the people in the south have long been regarded as grumpy about vaccinations. It’s not quite that simple; but maybe not quite as wrong as a look at other odds suggests. Five examples from vaccination statistics:
