Djamel Benlamri is already leaving Lyon to join Qatar SC

Djamel Benlamri’s first European experience, at the age of 30, was (very) short. Great architect of Algeria’s victory at the 2019 African Cup of Nations, the central defender has indeed formalized his signing on Wednesday in Qatar SC. Arrived at the end of the 2020 transfer window at OL for one season, he could only experience eight appearances in 2020-2021 (in all competitions), including three as the holder, and was not extended by the Lyon club.

His debut was however more than convincing, with thirty-eight minutes in a register of ultimate “warrior”, November 1 in Lille to preserve the draw (1-1) outnumbered. But the one who has always been considered by Rudi Garcia as number 4 in the hierarchy of central defenders, after Jason Denayer, Marcelo and Sinaly Diomande, could not confirm.

On the relaunch, to aim for the World Cup

Worse, Djamel Benlamri was directly involved in April on the ultimate goal Lille’s Burak Yilmaz at Parc OL (2-3), which cost dearly in the race for the Champions League.

The Algerian international will therefore try to revive in Qatar, in order to be part of Djamel Belmadi’s group for the 2022 World Cup.
