Djamel Belmadi fired from his post as Algeria coach after the new rout of the Fennecs

The elimination of Algeria in the first round of CAN 2024 will therefore have been fatal for Djamel Belmadi. Already weakened by the early exit of his team during the previous edition, in 2021, and by the non-qualification for the 2022 World Cup, the coach of the Fennecs was dismissed from his functions by the president of the Algerian Federation, Walid Sadi, this Wednesday.

Still a little credit at the start of the competition

“I met the national coach to discuss the consequences of this bitter exclusion, and we reached an amicable agreement to terminate the contract that binds him to the Algerian Football Federation,” declared the FAF boss. We thank Djamel Belmadi for everything he has done for the team and we wish him good luck for the rest of his career. »

An outcome that has become inevitable but that no one imagined at the start of the competition. Belmadi had nevertheless retained the credit for his extraordinary start to his mandate, with his record series of 35 victories in a row and especially this title of African champion conquered in 2019. It had even been extended until 2026 just before this CAN in Ivory Coast.
