District office in Bad Reichenhall withdraws power plant permit – Bavaria

The district office of Berchtesgadener Land has corrected its own decision from the previous year and withdrew its approval for a new Saalach power plant in the district town of Bad Reichenhall. This was preceded by a lawsuit from the local Federal Nature Conservation Association, which was also supported by the State Association for Bird Protection. As the law firm commissioned by the conservationists has now announced, the Munich Administrative Court left no doubts about its assessment of the project in a judicial letter before a possible judgment and thus moved the district office to withdraw the approval granted in 2020. The relatively small and technically not yet broadly tested shaft power plant on the so-called Luitpold weir, which was applied for 16 years ago, is only one of several controversial power plant projects on the Saalach near Bad Reichenhall.
