District of Munich: Volunteer wasp and hornet advisors wanted – District of Munich

Wasps and hornets are mostly considered to be pests. Normally, however, they are not dangerous, on the contrary: the insects can be useful as pest controllers, among other things. To protect them, the district office is looking for volunteer wasp and hornet advisors. The volunteers should identify potential problems and conflicts among residents of the district who discover nesting animals in the immediate vicinity, find solutions quickly in coordination with the lower nature conservation authority and those affected and, if necessary, take the necessary measures that take the needs of people and animals into account. This is to avoid wasps and hornets being unnecessarily disturbed or even destroyed.

Special knowledge is not required for the job; interested parties are prepared for their tasks in a two-day course. According to the district office, a time budget of around 27 hours per month should be planned. “The future wasp and hornet advisors should bring with them, above all, the joy of dealing with people and wasps, they should have good empathy and deal with possible conflicts constructively,” says a press release from the district office. Flexibility in terms of time and a category B driver’s license are also important.

Interested parties can send brief information about themselves and their motivation, a photo and details of the requirements described in writing to the Munich district office, department 4.4.3, Frankenthaler Straße 5-9, 81539 Munich, or by e-mail by Sunday, February 5th Apply to [email protected].
