District of Munich – A solar system on every roof – District of Munich

The district of Munich wants to set a good example in the energy transition and equip all of its own properties with photovoltaic systems as quickly as possible. The district council is following a motion by the Greens, which had called for all buildings owned by the district and on which no solar systems are installed to be equipped “as soon as possible” and with “maximum occupancy”. According to the Greens, this should ideally be done in a concerted effort by the end of next year. The district building committee approved the project unanimously.

Citizens’ cooperatives should be brought on board

According to the wishes of the Greens, the new schools that are being planned in the district are also to be equipped with solar systems – including the facilities on the school campus in the Deisenhofen district of Oberhaching and the new high school in Sauerlach. However, the district is not directly responsible for these buildings, since the respective school special purpose associations are responsible for the construction. However, the committee decided to make a corresponding recommendation to the school special-purpose associations, to which the district itself also belongs; In addition, the special-purpose associations should be recommended to obtain offers from citizens’ energy cooperatives for the construction of new photovoltaic systems.

The administration in the Munich district office estimates the costs for equipping the district’s own properties – without the schools – at just over 600,000 euros. There are already solar systems on numerous district-owned buildings, such as the vehicle registration office in Grasbrunn or the Heiner-Janik-Haus in Oberschleißheim. “I am pleased that much more is to be done very quickly,” said Christoph Nadler, spokesman for the Greens in the district council.
