The SPD representative for the district of Munich, Michael Schrodi, welcomes the introduction of the new citizens’ allowance as of January 1, 2023 decided by the Bundestag and points out that many people in the district also benefit from what he sees as the “biggest socio-political reform of the last 20 years”. According to Schrodi, there are around 7,100 employable beneficiaries in the district who would experience “more security and targeted support in basic security” through the law passed by the traffic light. “At the same time, people get the chance, for example with training and further education bonuses, to qualify and thus have better chances of finding a new job,” says Schrodi from Olching. He accuses the CSU, which did not approve the bill in the Bundestag, of spreading “fake news” in connection with citizen income. The Bundesrat still has to approve the citizens’ allowance.
