The police in the district of Ebersberg have noticed a huge increase in accidents involving pedelecs. By mid-August, 14 traffic accidents involving bicycles powered by electricity and muscle power had been registered. This is 75 percent more than in the same period last year, according to the police. In all cases, the drivers involved suffered at least minor injuries. In six cases, senior citizens fell with their vehicles. As the police found out, the cause of the accident was often just the wrong handling of the vehicle and the resulting driving errors. The demands in dealing with pedelecs and their operation are higher than with a bicycle powered only by muscle power.
