The Greens suffered some significant losses in the district elections in Hamburg on Sunday. The counting of votes on Monday showed that the SPD is now ahead in two districts and the CDU in two others.
The Greens, the winners of the 2019 election, recorded heavy losses in all seven districts on Monday – some in the double-digit range. Nevertheless, they are still ahead in Altona, Eimsbüttel and Nord.
SPD sees itself as the “strongest force”
In view of gains in all seven Hamburg districts, the SPD sees itself as the winner of the district assembly election. “The SPD has gained in all seven districts and is thus once again the strongest political force at the district level,” said state chairmen Melanie Leonhard and Nils Weiland early Monday evening.
